Expressing my inner voice.
Writing has always been important to me. In fact, I remember spending a great deal of time writing for personal reasons as a child. Supposedly, it was like keeping a diary but I never saw it that way. It was more about finding my inner voice and then giving that voice an outlet. I have always known myself and, even at my most confused and darkest point, I could hear a strong inner voice guiding me. Writing allowed me to freely express it. The writing was never meant to be shared though.
Sharing truth and knowledge.
Why would anyone want to read what I write anyway? It wasn’t until very recently did it finally dawn on me that reading my writing could actually be very valuable. People just might want to read my writing, and, in fact, be better off from having done so. Furthermore, it is quite clear that writing with purpose will serve my children well. Surely, they will want to read my work. They will certainly benefit from reading it. Therefore, discarding doubt, I have started this blog. It will be my new forum for expressing myself through writing. My writing will remain personal, as always, but for the first time ever it will also be for everyone else.
Born and raised in Chicago.
Interested readers should expect to learn about my story which starts with my split childhood. Days were spent going back and forth between two very different worlds. My mother’s world, which was home, and the world of my father which included a step-mother. And even though the two houses were only a short bike-ride away from one another… they felt like two different planets at times.
The divided setting of Chicago’s south-side added to the striking contrast between the homes of my divided youth. Joint-custody meant I spent half of my time in a big historic house surrounded by Chicago’s proud Irish-Catholics and half was spent on the “other side of the tracks” in the more infamous, or stereotypical, setting of Chicago’s south-side, proudly immersed in its Black community.
Embracing life’s essentials.
My journey began off the beaten-path and, while I never strayed too far from conventional wisdom, I have also never been mainstream. Consistently attracted to the alternative thought, I continue to live as intentionally as possible. Approaching life carefully with the utmost respect everyday. Guided by respect but also, and more importantly, guided by LOVE. Love is life. Life is love. Consequently, I will definitely be writing about love. Love is one of the five main ingredients for life, the other four being God, Body/Temple, Nature and Happiness. In order to flourish properly life needs these essentials.
Makeda-Fare is my wisdom to share.
Hopefully, I will provide some food-for-thought, or ‘Makeda-Fare’, for anyone looking for positive examples of more-conscious, alternative-lifestyles. It is not about having all the answers but about endless learning, and growing, from every gift-of-a-day. So, this blog will serve as my first effort to really embrace my new challenge of sharing that earned knowledge and growth openly as I continue down my path toward fulfilling my purpose. One sunrise at a time.
Blessings,
Makeda.
“We need love and togetherness. Always forever blessed. Helping each other on this journey never less… Help each other to grow. Teach the brothers what you know. Keep a clean heart in your chest, watch the blessings flow…”
